Product Information

Who are Cadense Adaptive Shoes designed for?

Cadense shoes are designed for individuals who experience difficulties lifting their foot off the ground while swinging it forward and experience compensatory movements like shuffling, hiking of the hip, and circumduction as a result of this.

Many of our customers are within the Stroke, MS, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's and Foot Drop community. Cadense shoes have helped more than 40,000 community members who experience a broad variety of ailments causing walking challenges.

How does the Variable Friction Technology work?

Cadense shoes use patented Variable Friction Technology to help the foot to glide forward over obstacles while still providing grip when weight is applied. This makes walking feel smoother and more controlled, especially for those with walking difficulties.

Read more about how our shoes work.

How do the shoes perform on different surfaces?

Cadense shoes can be worn on a variety of indoor and outdoor surfaces. You'll experience the greatest benefit from our Variable Friction Technology on smooth, firm surfaces such as hardwood floors, low-pile carpet, tile, sidewalks, and pavement. They can still be worn on grass, gravel, or other uneven terrain, but the Variable Friction Technology may not perform as intended on those surfaces.

Are Cadense shoes good for balance?

Cadense shoes are designed to help create a smoother walking experience. While they are not specifically designed to improve balance, many customers with Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, and other mobility conditions report feeling more confident and comfortable while walking in them.

Are the shoes lightweight or heavy?

Despite their 1.5-inch sole, Cadense shoes are lightweight:

  • Men’s size 9: ~12 oz per shoe
  • Women’s size 7: ~10 oz per shoe

Do Cadense shoes have arch support?

The shoes come with standard arch support, but the insoles are removable, so you can use your own inserts or orthotics if needed.

Are Cadense shoes available in different styles and colors?

Yes! Cadense offers a variety of styles and colors for both men and women. We’re also continually developing new products and colorways, so be sure to check back for our latest releases.

Fit & Compatibility

How do I determine my size?

Cadense shoes generally fit true to size. You can review our sizing guide or contact support@cadense.com for help.

Do you offer Wide or Narrow sizes?

Our Cadense Originals are available in Wide widths (Women's D and Men's E). If you need additional width or extra room to accommodate an AFO, our Adaptive AFO Shoe is available in widths up to 6E.

We do not currently offer Narrow widths, but we're always evaluating ways to expand our sizing options.

Can I wear Cadense shoes with an AFO or brace?

Yes! Our Adaptive AFO Shoe was designed specifically for people who wear ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs). It features an extra-wide opening, adjustable fit, removable fillers, and multiple width options to make putting on shoes easier while accommodating different brace types.

The Cadense Original can fit various slim-profile AFOs, but they are not specifically designed for AFO users. If you currently are able to fit your AFO into a Regular or Wide (E) width shoe, it should work with our Cadense Originals. If you wear a larger or bulkier brace, we recommend our Adaptive AFO Shoe instead.

Do you sell single shoes to accommodate different sizes for each foot?

Not currently. Cadense shoes are sold in matching pairs at this time. We know that offering different sizes for each foot would benefit many customers, and it's something we're actively evaluating as we continue to expand our product offerings.

How long do Cadense shoes last?

Cadense shoes are built for everyday walking and designed to withstand regular use. How long they last depends on factors like your walking pattern, the amount of foot scuffing, and the surfaces you walk on.

Light scuffing on smooth surfaces: Many customers enjoy a year or more of regular use.

Heavy scuffing on rough surfaces (such as coarse concrete or gravel): The glide pads may wear more quickly, sometimes within a few months.

For customers who scuff heavily, using your Cadense shoes primarily on smooth indoor surfaces, such as hardwood or low-pile carpet, can help extend the life of the Variable Friction Technology.

How do I care for my Cadense shoes?

The best way to care for your Cadense shoes is with our Cadense Shoe Cleaning Kit. It helps keep your shoes clean while maintaining their appearance. For minor touch-ups, you can also use a damp cloth. After cleaning, let your shoes air dry and avoid direct heat or harsh cleaning products.
