The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) Patient Summit 2024 was an incredible experience filled with learning, inspiration, and connection. I was honored to attend as both the CEO ofCadenseand an exhibitor, showcasing our Cadense Adaptive Shoes, which are designed specifically to improve mobility for individuals with walking difficulties. This year’s summit truly embodied the sense of community, support, and progress that the CMTA is known for.

Highlights from the Summit
The summit brought together individuals living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease, their families, healthcare providers, and researchers. We heard from leading experts in the field who shared updates on CMT research, treatment advancements, and ways to improve daily life for those with CMT.
A key theme of the event was empowerment—empowerment through knowledge, new therapies, and tools that enhance quality of life. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the energy in the air. The dedication of both the organizers and attendees was palpable, creating a collaborative environment where people were eager to share their experiences, learn, and find new ways to manage their condition.
Cadense’s Participation as an Exhibitor
I’m proud to say that Cadense Adaptive Shoes were featured as part of the exhibitor lineup, where we had the opportunity to demonstrate our unique approach to adaptive footwear. Our shoes are engineered with variable friction technology, which assists those with walking challenges, such as foot drop and balance difficulties—issues that are common in the CMT community.
I had some great conversations with attendees, many of whom were excited to try out our shoes. The enthusiasm and feedback from the community were invaluable, and it was clear that Cadense is making a real impact. It’s always rewarding to see how our innovations can benefit those with mobility issues, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect directly with so many people who could benefit from our technology.
The Power of the CMT Community
One of the most uplifting aspects of the summit was thesense of unityamong participants. People shared their personal stories, successes, and challenges, and it was inspiring to witness the strength of the CMT community. I enjoyed theenergetic atmosphere—the summit wasn’t just about education, it was about coming together to uplift each other and celebrate the progress being made.
How Cadense Adaptive Shoes Can Help the CMT Community
For people living with CMT, walking can be a daily challenge due to muscle weakness, balance issues, and foot drop. Cadense Adaptive Shoes are designed to address these challenges, offering:
- Enhanced support and balance: Our innovative sole with adaptive nylon pucks adjusts to each step, providing stability and support, which is crucial for individuals with CMT.
- Improved gait mechanics: The variable friction technology helps to ease walking movements, allowing users to regain better control over their stride.
- Ease of use: Our shoes are designed for easy slip-on and slip-off functionality, eliminating the need for bending over or struggling with laces.
By offering solutions that help improve mobility and independence, we hope to make a difference in the lives of those affected by CMT. Being part of the summit reinforced our commitment to this mission and reminded me how vital it is to listen to the needs of the community.

As Cadense continues to grow and develop new technologies, we remain dedicated to supporting individuals with CMT and other walking difficulties. The CMTA Summit 2024 was a reminder of the incredible power of coming together, sharing knowledge, and working toward a better future for all those impacted by CMT.
