Product Information
Who are Cadense Adaptive Shoes designed for?
Cadense shoes are designed for individuals who experience difficulties lifting their foot off the ground while swinging it forward and experience compensatory movements like shuffling, hiking of the hip, and circumduction as a result of this.
Many of our customers are within the Stroke, MS, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's and Foot Drop community. Cadense shoes have helped more than 12,000 community members who experience a broad variety of ailments causing walking challenges.
How does the Variable Friction Technology work?
Cadense shoes use patented Variable Friction Technology to help the foot to glide forward over obstacles while still providing grip when weight is applied. This makes walking feel smoother and more controlled, especially for those with walking difficulties.
Read more about how our shoes work.
How do the shoes perform on different surfaces?
Best surfaces: Low-pile carpet, hardwood floors, tile (with small steps), sidewalks, pavement, and many others.
Not recommended for: Ice, snow, gravel, farmland, or grass.
Are Cadense shoes good for balance?
Cadense shoes do not directly improve balance, but many people with MS, stroke recovery, or Parkinson’s have found them helpful for smoother movement and reducing the risk of tripping.
Are the shoes lightweight or heavy?
Despite their 1.5-inch sole, Cadense shoes are lightweight:
- Men’s size 9: ~12 oz per shoe
- Women’s size 7: ~10 oz per shoe
Many customers expect them to be heavy but are surprised by how light they feel once worn.
Do Cadense shoes have arch support?
The shoes come with standard arch support, but the insoles are removable, so you can use your own inserts or orthotics if needed.
Are Cadense shoes available in different styles and colors?
Yes! We offer multiple colors for both men’s and women’s styles. We are also developing new styles for the future.
Fit & Compatibility
How do I determine my size?
Cadense shoes fit true to size. If you're between sizes, we recommend sizing up for the best fit. You can review our sizing guide or contact support@cadense.com for help.
Do you offer Wide or Narrow sizes?
We offer Wide (Women's D, Men's E) width options.
If you need a half size in Wide, we recommend sizing up to the next full size.
We do not currently offer Narrow sizes, but we’re evaluating future size expansions.
Can I wear Cadense shoes with an AFO or brace?
It depends on the size of your AFO:
- If your AFO fits in a regular or Wide (Women's D, Men's E) width shoe, it will likely fit in Cadense shoes.
- If you usually size up for your AFO, we recommend doing the same for Cadense.
- Our insoles are removable, which may help with fit.
Do you offer shoes in mismatched sizes for each foot?
We do not currently offer mismatched sizes, but we know this is something many customers are interested in, and we’re evaluating future options.
How long do Cadense shoes last?
The lifespan of your shoes depends on scuffing severity and walking surfaces:
- Light scuffing on smooth surfaces: Can last a year or more.
- Heavy scuffing on rough surfaces (e.g., concrete with pebbles): May wear out in a few months.
To extend their lifespan, indoor use (on carpet or hardwood) is recommended for those who scuff heavily.
How do I care for my Cadense shoes?
Wipe with a damp cloth for regular cleaning.
Air dry—do not use direct heat or harsh chemicals.
