Why We Made This Shoe

Meet the Women’s All-Black Adaptive Sneaker, where elegance meets innovation. Perfect for dressing up or keeping it casual, this versatile shoe transitions seamlessly from the office to dinner and beyond—offering style without compromising comfort.

Equipped with our patented Variable Friction Technology, it’s designed to support smoother movement, helping you navigate obstacles with ease while promoting a more confident, natural gait. And because we believe functionality should look as good as it feels, this all-black design delivers comfort so luxurious, you’ll feel like you’re walking on clouds.

Product Details

AFO compatibility: Our shoes might work with your AFO depending on its size. If you currently are able to fit your AFO into a shoe in a regular or Wide (D) width shoe, it should work with Cadense shoes.

Toe box: Our toe box is very generously spaced.

Weight of the shoe: About 10.8 oz per shoe – Women's size 8 was used as reference.

Heel to Toe Drop: Standard 3/8".

Shoe sole height: Our shoe sole measures about 1.5 inches throughout. The height is needed to allow the variable friction technology to work properly and it also makes for a very comfortable walking experience.

Teaching

I’ve been teaching for 36 years. I’m retiring at the end of this school year 2026! I started to get foot drop in 2012. Later that summer, I had an MRI. My doctor discovered I had MS. I wish I had Cadense shoes back then or discovered them before my last year of teaching. What a great way to end my career! ❤️

Life saving

I could not walk prior to using Cadence shoes! I am so appreciative for these shoes. Even my Physical Therapist has been amazed . I recommend these shoes to anyone with Neuropathy.

Magic shoes

I have foot drop and I have fallen a couple of times which is not good. Since I got these shoes I don't fall and I walk so much better. I don't want to wear another shoe. My son said they are my magic shoes. I can walk with just a cane instead of a walker. I will buy another pair in a different color.

Ease of walking.

I have MS and have foot drop on my right foot along with weakness on my right leg. I don't have to 'tuck and roll' like I did too many times to mention. The slide feature on the shoes are wonderful!!

Gliding forefoot - great idea, but the clack-clack sound…

Here’s my honest review of my Cadense Original Women’s Adaptive Shoe

Fit (without AFO): ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fit (with hardshell AFO): ⭐️⭐️
Style: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Durability: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had really hoped that this shoe would fit over my hardshell AFO, which is currently shaped like half a pirate boot. I couldn’t get it on until in the office at Hanger Clinic, and the orthotis specialist showed me how to open it as wide as possible. It was a tight and very uncomfortable fit - I am a size 8 1/2 M normally. He recommended going up to size 9, possibly W. However, I’m not willing to buy a single left shoe, as I will have my orthosis cut down in about a month to lighten it at the ankle. It may fit better then.

The glide feature is a little odd at first, but I appreciate that my draggy left foot doesn’t “catch” or stick to hard floors. It’s fine going down carpeted stairs, and on hard stairs, I’m careful to really plant and weight-transfer to each heel.

I love how they look, and how light they are compared to my old full-leather NB walking shoes (the left has to be half unlaced to fit the foot and ankle of the AFO).

But the clack-clack sound of the glide pieces on hardwood floors is pretty annoying. I can’t lift my left foot at the ankle much yet, so can’t plant my heel without a lot of effort and contortion.

After getting my AFO cut back to make it more flexible and lighter, I may be able to report back with more stars if it improves the fit. Not ready to buy a single left 9W yet.

Frequently asked questions

Who are the shoes for?

We have created the Cadense Original adaptive sneaker for people experiencing walking difficulties. Our shoe may help seniors with walking difficulties, individuals experiencing foot drop, stroke patients, people with multiple-sclerosis, or cerebral palsy.

How do Cadense Adaptive Shoes work?

Cadense adaptive shoes use our proprietary, patent-pending variable friction technology.

Low-friction elements on the shoe sole allow you the slide over everyday obstacles like uneven pavements. High friction rubber parts get activated when weight is placed on the shoe and allow you to stop and toe-off as needed.
